Aundria Jones and Alicia Moreno work the dessert bar at the Amplify POC Summer Festival.

Does a mobile dessert bar for your next party sound like fun? Aundria Jones thought so! Jones created the mobile dessert bar concept three years ago and has been improving on it ever since.

Jones grew up in Falmouth and graduated from the Upper Cape Technical High School culinary program and Cape Cod Community College business and hospitality management program. She began the cottage bakery business in 2020 when friends encouraged her to take her beautiful cakes to social media, where a following grew. Jones has hired two young women to help the growing business and is having another dessert cart built to handle the increased demand.

Jones teaches cake-making classes online and in person. “I also virtually mentor people on how to start a cottage food establishment. I have clients from all over, and I help them make their business work for them,” she said. This allows her to travel, as she can mentor from anywhere. Did I mention Jones is 23 years old? “I am not looking to be in grocery stores or create a franchise. I like low pressure, and I love the freedom of making cakes. But the baking industry can be difficult to stay afloat unless you diversify a bit,” she added.

A cake bar customer can choose from eleven cake flavors, seven frosting flavors, and twenty-four toppings such as jimmies, strawberries, cookie crumbs, among others. The cart can hold up to nine options for the toppings in recessed containers. Jones has recently added a breakfast bar, snack bar – think popcorn, nuts and pretzels – and charcuterie bar to the clever tasks her mobile cart can take on.

Jones brought the mobile dessert bar to a LoveLiveLocal Fest where I chose a dark chocolate cake – served in a pink mini-loaf pan with snap-on lid – with rich espresso frosting and Oreo cookie crumbles. Seriously delicious. You can find her at Amplify POC events, too; and check her website for pop-ups featuring holiday dessert-themed carts.

Another of Jones’ innovations is the cake jar. Each jar consists of layers of cake, frosting and filling or topping in a small mason jar, and are available at Peel’s Pizza in Falmouth or can be purchased wholesale. The flavors change weekly and are sold frozen and then thawed to room temperature before eating to allow the heavenly buttercream frosting to soften. They are the perfect dessert to take on a picnic or give as a hostess gift and would be a great alternative to cupcakes at a birthday party.

“I have been an overachiever since I was young. The phrase ‘if you want more, you have to become more’ has always stuck with me.” Jones shared. “And don’t quit your day job to start your business, use it to build it.”
