The Salt Block Food Truck, located on Route 28 in the overflow parking lot across from Saquatucket Harbor in Harwich Port, serves up a food experience that is “worth its weight” and so much more. Doug and Jen Ramler, owners of the perennially popular Cape Sea Grille, outfitted a delivery truck with a fully equipped kitchen and bright blue paint with the goal of serving fresh food that’s just plain good. “Eat good food” is emblazoned across the front, so be ready to be surprised by fresh sauces, pickled vegetables, and inventive combinations.

Their menu, though simple, hits every note. French fry lovers can rejoice (and find addiction) in the truck’s specialty Block Fries—herbed tater-tot-type fries with a kickin’ aioli—which are always available. Classic tacos of pork, chicken or fish—each topped with a different slaw that’s made to order—come in sets of two that you can mix and match, and their daily taco special overflows with local produce and flavor. A daily specialty sandwich could be (and was) slathered with a three-nut-feta pesto, pickled rhubarb, and fall-apart pulled pork. On any given day, the chalkboard items are a rotating menu of goodness.

Doug and Jen note that although the endeavor is new, they love the energy within the truck. It’s a special kind of challenge to navigate a busy service in a tiny space, but they learn more with each weekend they take to Main Street.

“When I think of fine-dining kitchens and restaurants, I think intense. I’ve always been associated with places that are intense,” says Doug. “The Salt Block gives us an opportunity to create the same levels of expectation and great flavors while adding an atmosphere that is fun. I really enjoy making food for others and watching their faces when they try something new or unexpected.”

At the end of your meal you might think you’re satisfied, but don’t stop until you’ve tried one of their homemade desserts. The salted caramel nut and the fudge brownie top the list of must-tries.

With lots of outdoor seating, incredibly friendly staff, and quality ingredients, the Salt Block Food Truck is a must hit for your summer bucket list.
